The origin of “viel”

viel is the German word for much and many and it has a surprisingly make-sensical relative in English.
Hmm… I guess make-sensical isn’t really a word, but I kind of like it.

Anyway, the relative of viel is…

flow

And all the words in that large family like German fließen or Fluss.

So in a way, when in German you say that you have a lot of ideas, you say I have “a flow” of ideas. Makes perfect sense.

By the way, the origin of the opposite wenig was also quite interesting. I think I have that on another card somewhere…
