Jedem das sein.

“Jedem das seine” is the German version of the English expression “To each their own.”

A nice example for how cases and prepositions are two ways of expressing the same thing. In this case, the role of a recipient.

das seine is an old-fashioned sounding phrasing and you wouldn’t use it in daily life. The colloquial version would be:

“Jedem seins.”

The German saying is for all people and jedem is referring to “der Mensch” (the human being). If you wanted it to refer only to women, it would look like this:

“Jeder das ihre.”
